Specialized Procurement Placement Student Review

In my role, I manage savings data on the CRPD database, maintain a savings excel, and present monthly updates to the team. I support supplier sourcing, conduct cost comparisons for quotes, and handle supplier approvals and RFQs. I am also responsible for monthly diversity spend reports. Additionally, I support HSE compliance, and have lead 2 cross-functional projects which are the HU barcode labeling implementation, and creation of supplier scorecards to support strategic reviews and business decisions.

I was given a high level of responsibility throughout my placement. I independently managed the CRPD database and tracker, led the HU barcode labeling implementation project, and regularly presented cost savings to the team. I was trusted to liaise directly with suppliers, handle sensitive data updates, and support key processes like part setup and HSE compliance. These responsibilities allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the team and develop confidence in my decision-making skills.

I’ve developed strong data analysis and Excel skills through cost comparison reports and tracking savings. I’ve also improved my communication and stakeholder management skills by liaising with suppliers and internal teams. Additionally, I gained experience with systems like Movex and SAR, enhancing my technical capabilities. Leading the HU barcode project helped build my project management skills, while supporting HSE compliance and supplier evaluations strengthened my attention to detail and understanding of procurement processes.

I received a tremendous support and guidance from not only my direct manager, but fellow colleagues in my team and external teams. Everyone was always approachable and provided clear guidance when needed, especially during the initial onboarding and while learning new systems like Movex and SAR. Regular check-ins and feedback helped me tackle unfamiliar tasks,and I received encouragment to take initiative and work independently. This created a highly supportive environment for me.

The company culture was collaborative and inclusive, with a positive and welcoming atmosphere. One of the standout aspects was the lack of rigid hierarchy as everyone was approachable, from senior managers to team members. This made it easy to ask questions and share ideas. There was a strong emphasis on teamwork and open communication, and I felt valued and supported throughout my placement. This made it a great environment for learning, growth, and contributing meaningfully.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, especially being exposed to the power solutions sector which I have learned is extremely dynamic and relationship reliant. Working with friendly and supportive colleagues made the experience even more rewarding, as they encouraged my growth and learning throughout. I also really appreciated the company’s strong emphasis on community service, which helped me understand the importance of giving back and contributing beyond the workplace. Overall, it was an enriching and fulfilling experience.
