Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role was working with suppliers globally and internal project teams to co-ordinate the prototype material to the plants where the project was based, in America. This involved regular online meetings, emailing suppliers and reacting to any problems in the supply chain. Using excel to track the status of every part. I was personally responsible for the individual procurement of over 2 million dollars worth of parts where I had to purchase, order, keep track of and deliver on time for the project.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was trained and treated as a full time employee in this role with all the responsibilities and expectations alongside it. My work directly impacted the success of a current Cummins prototype project.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I pushed my manager to give me more work, challenge me and responsibility and she provided this and helped to push me to develop as much as I could during my time here. I was provided an individual engineering project with another student and apart from a project sponsor I was given free reign as to how I went about this.
There was always training available for any role or topic in the business.
