Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Involves design, analysis and hands on work with every day varying. Would get to run solo projects and assist in bigger projects ranging in problem solving of field returns to design fixtures and new equipment to test hardware. Job requirements varied. Some days would be spent in the lab doing physical bits such as stripping brakes down and other days would be sat doing CAD.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, had many projects where I would do it solo so all the weight fell on me to get it done in a timely manner. Additionally would manage tests do would have to manage technicians. Tasks were frequently handed out so always had some task to do independently.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, my CAD skills have improved, office and design around ergonomics has all improved. The hands on side was good but due to prior interests, learnt less as I was very familiar with mechanics but definitely interesting to learn the details on how truck brakes work. My communication and time management has all improved.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had extremely helpful and experienced colleagues who were always willing to help. The company was very encouraging about setting up meetings to share and teach knowledge where it was missing ensuring everyone could learn. No fear of asking for help was present and support was always encouraged.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Extremely polite, calm and friendly. Very little feelings of stress and no one was harsh or unfriendly in anyways. Very stress free work environment leading which made managing mental health extremely easy. Can go home feeling relaxed frequently.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Extremely enjoyed it, never felt stressed, bored or overworked. Made plenty of friends, learnt a lot and earned good money. Great experience for a placement job and makes the world of engineering seem like a great place to be.

Don't overstress in the interview, the interview process is extremely effective for finding good people and you will feel the pressure but it's on purpose and afterwards, it's a great time. They amazing employers with great strategies.
