Finance Placement Student Review

Some of my responsibilities include:
Managing the EO bank accounts
Assisting with invoice approvals
Managing intercompany AR (Account Receivables)
Making manual payments
Producing the payroll reconciliation file and submitting payroll
Providing billing backups for multiple business areas
Assisting with month end journalling process
Completing monthly reconciliations for accounts
Forecasting bank account balances

I feel I was given a good amount of responsibility, I never felt like the work I was doing was pointless for example. If I didn't do it then someone else would have had to. I was also in charge of the payroll submission which is a big job because if it's messed up then you'll have everyone angry at you.

I have learnt some new software needed for the role. My Excel skills have developed a lot as I use it everyday. Things like lookups, pivot tables and power query have all come in use over my time at the placement.
Simply developing office skills like how to write and follow up on emails is also an underrated skill that I learnt.

I had a 6 week handover with the previous placement student which helped me learn the skills and become comfortable in the role. I also have a monthly mentoring meeting with an ex-placement student from a different area of the business. This is useful as they have been through a similar process to you so can offer valuable advice. My team was also very happy to help when I needed it.

Within the EO team the culture is very good, I feel like I could ask any team member for help and they would be willing to give up some of their time to assist me. Everyone I have met has been very friendly which makes the atmosphere in the office more relaxed and a nice place to work.

I really enjoyed my time on placement. As mentioned above, the fact I was given real responsibilities kept me motivated and made me feel valued. I feel like it's been a very valuable experience and will look really good on my CV.
