Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Serving customers in branch for retail, corporate and insurance rentals. Going on road to deliver cars to customers. Facilitating the repair, servicing and maintenance of a large fleet of vehicles. Sourcing the correct car class to the correct rental. Chasing payment of unpaid invoices for retail and business clients. Engaging in the sale of protection products and additional services to maximize revenue.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
No. The running of daily operations in the branch is usually given to the most senior colleague in on that day. Interns are by nature at the bottom of this structure. The responsibility of interns is secondary to that of graduate trainees who have the exact same job title and responsibility, so opportunities will be given to graduates before interns at all times. The responsibilities are limited to admin tasks, delivering and colleting vehicles, calling customers, booking in services for vehicles ect...

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Sales is a massive part of the role, you will learn strategies and techniques to improve your sales output. Customer service skills were put into play consistently, these were developed. If you have a basic understanding of business beforehand, your business related skills wont be tested very much. Its more about facilitating rentals which is quite repetitive in nature. Phone skills were developed consistently to communicate with customers.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
The training, upskilling and employee development team are excellent. Lots of opportunities to go up to head office and engage in seminar-like lessons, group discussions and learning the ropes of the business. You get to learn about all aspects of the business running, with he expectation that you take these learnings and put them into practice back at your own branch. However, this is less often the case. Ideals preached at head office aren't often translated in branch or facilitated by managers as their main priority is making money and running the day.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
My colleagues, managers and all support personnel are great at Enterprise. Hardworking, friendly colleagues make for a nice social atmosphere. However, the nature of the work and the working culture of the business is completely broken. Expectations from higher management around working hours are absurd. Since my colleagues have been a part of this culture for so long, they don't realize that what they are expecting from interns is completely unreasonable. I don't blame the people themselves for this, but the consistently impossible workload and expectation makes it very difficult to work for this company. Also, the attitude towards sales culture is very competitive, being a poor salesperson makes this job very disheartening and you are constantly pressured to perform with sales.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Not very much. The long, unsociable hours, weekend work and late finishes ruin any redeemable factors of this job. 6+ hours of driving per day becomes very tiring and boring after a while. The repetitive work and difficult customer service situations that i encounter every day are hard to manage. Enterprise take advantage of naïve students, exploit them with the promise of experience and unlimited pay opportunities (which are not available to placement students), and rinse and repeat. It is not sustainable place to work. My colleagues were excellent and I no not attribute any of my dissatisfaction to the people that I worked with, but this job cannot be enjoyable given the tasks, responsibility and expectations.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Enterprise Mobility to a friend?
No
What advice would you give to others applying to Enterprise Mobility
Read the reviews carefully and understand what is expected from you. For some, this job will suit well. Geographic limitations also apply. If you live in a sparsely populated area, or in an area with particularly high traffic, this role will be far different depending on where you live. Make the most of the branch visit and ask and understand the nature of the area that you will be working as this makes or breaks your placement.
