Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Attending fit sessions, fitting, creating specs, checking make-up, looking into high returns, bench marking to ensure sizing is aligned with competitors. Requesting relevant testing for the garments, ensuring all safety testing is completed especially on children's garments.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes I was given the chance to lead fit sessions with supervision, create specs and also make commercial decisions.

Yes, I feel I have learnt a number of new skills. I also now have a better understanding of the importance of the theories taught at university since applying them everyday.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received so much support. This really helped me to develop as I knew I had a solid team/ support behind me. There is also great masterclasses provided by the learning and development team which involve insights into presentation skills, SDI results etc.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at the company was second to none. Even through the pandemic and working from home there was so much team support/interaction which created a wonderful friendly atmosphere.

I absolutely loved my placement at Matalan. I am sad to be leaving as it has been so amazing and beneficial to my growth both personally and professionally.

Be yourself. I feel like as a company they really rate people who are personable and will get on well within a team. I would also recommend researching Matalan as a business and understanding their morals and community work.
