Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
All of the interns were assigned to one of two ‘strands’ within the company: Personal Legal Services or Legal Services for Businesses. I was on the Personal Legal Services stream. Each day, you were assigned a task to complete to do with a key practice area of your stream (i.e. medical negligence, personal injury, court of protection etc), which, after submitting online, you received feedback on through a group session the next day. Peppered throughout the week were scheduled conversations with trainees, partners and associate solicitors who were able to give you an insight into specific practice areas that Irwin Mitchell Offers.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was interesting to learn that there are a wide range of roles within Irwin Mitchell, particularly their in-house medical researchers who work closely on cases involving medical negligence and serious personal injury. The emphasis at Irwin Mitchell, in many cases, really seems to be a holistic approach to each case which is clearly something which is highly valued by their clients.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The general atmosphere was good – the office was somewhat quiet due to a lot of staff working from home on various days, but it was never empty. The people who were in the office were clearly focused and working hard, but also did not seem stressed and took time to relax and talk to their colleagues. Everyone I met at Irwin Mitchell was incredibly happy to have a chat and genuinely interested in saying hello to us insight students – even those who weren’t specifically assigned to help or work on the programme.
