Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I was a trainer civil engineer and spent my placement helping complete documents required for construction work to be completed, spent time on site observing engineering work and doing my own surveying and setting out.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given the task to fill out documents needed to gain permits for construction work to be completed, helped out with site tours with visiting students and carried out setting out and surveying tasks.

Yes. My communication and collaboration skills have been developed due to the project that I was working on involving a wide variety of companies and individuals working towards the same goal.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
The team I was working with were incredibly supportive and their guidance throughout my placement made a huge difference. They were very approachable and I appreciate the efforts they went to ensuring I had plenty of work to do and always felt involved with the project, despite only being there for 8 weeks.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
BAM has a great company culture. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and approachable, and the teams seemed to have very close relationships.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my placement. As it was my first experience of a summer placement, I’m really grateful I got to do it with a big company like BAM on a huge railway project in the North. Being able to spend so much time on site along with forming new contacts and connections made my time there really worthwhile and enjoyable.
