Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Primarily would consist of reviewing video interviews, screening candidate CVs and answering either phone calls or emails. On some occasions you could be outsourced to a different team to help with their video interviews, screening, etc. There were also chances to partake in coaching calls for assessment centres or telephone interviews.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Responsibility was fairly team dependant, not everyone on the placement was given their own projects they could manage themselves; i was lucky enough to be on a large team and therefore i had the oppurtunity to partially manage some campaigns as they were getting started. Although for the majority of the placement, especially the first half of it, i was doing the same monotonous tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Throughout my time at Amberjack the main skill i definietly developed and improved on was confidence, as it is more of a social workplace in the sense of both the actual work you do and also the coworkers. Another skill that was built upon more than developed was time management, generally with the amount of tasks you are given within the day and a schedule to follow, having this skill was important, but getting used to the shcedule ensured i could improve on said skill.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There was always chances to go and communicate with your manager or more experienced coworkers. Also, due to the layout of the office, it was very easy to just stand up and go and talk with and/or ask questions to any other free manager - as most people within the office that are higher up generally had the same experience and same amount of freedom to speak and help with newer colleagues.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture and general atmosphere was very good in a major way. Everyone in the office was very friendly both in person and on microsoft teams, there was plenty of company events and oppurtunities to get involved with the local community with colleagues as well. Along with monthly business briefings, in which the entire office gets together to comment talk about how the business is doing, but it has a fairly relaxed vibe to it.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I very much enjoyed the placement, the first few months were fairly difficult to get used to - as i had never worked in an office setting before - but after training/inductions it was smooth running. Although the work itself could sometimes get very boring, it was levelled out by the sociability of everyone in the office, this type of thing doesn't seem to be overly common within other office settings as i've been told by others on different placements.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Amberjack to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Amberjack
Understand that while the office is a lot more laidback, that there is still and incentive to work and there are consequences for not doing work, just like any other job, similarly just like every other job you will still need to work hard despite how easy the tasks given are. Especially to note that within the peak period (September - January) it can get stressful and hours can be longer, but you earn these back as extra holdiay days later in the year.
