Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Each 9-5 day is different.
For example: A morning can start with a client meeting, and a project review with my project manager. Midday I usually have a development sessions: writing a CV workshop / Linkedin workshop / asset class tutorials / RI at Hymans presentation etc. I might have a call that I've arranged with someone to discuss a topic further. Then in the free hours of my day, I will be actively working on sorting data on excel for my client teams, reviewing policy documents, or doing research for my presentation or extra tasks I volunteered my time to work towards.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Plenty.
Independent project: Whilst you do get lots of support from your project manager, ultimately as the person presenting at the end of the 8 weeks, its up to you how far you take your research and choose to present your findings.
Charity challenge: Between offices you try to raise as much money as possible. You don't get told how - you take initiative and plan amongst your intern teams!
Additional events: There's plenty of scope to ask your team for work and take on additional learning.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I had a wonderful time and I feel like I've made a lot of personal growth. My degree didn't directly relate to finance, so I've been able to significantly develop my understanding of the investment industry during my time here. In turn, the internship has given me lots of insight into future career paths both inside and outside of Hymans and what a day to day for different roles can look like. I've also learnt lots about the post-grad qualifications alongside work, that are available.
