Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked in private pensions for 8 weeks. I was put on three different client teams in which i did an array of work including drafting documents for trustees and working out pension amounts for members(Transfer values, retirement quotes, spouse triv comps). Also had to do a project in which I needed to learn about one of my clients and how the team at Hymans for that client works. Then we had additional technical work such as Power BI and working out a transfer value from scratch.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes I was given lots of responsibility. I was a doer for all of my work which then got checked and then sometimes reviewed. This work then was used by other parts of the business or sent directly to clients. I also drafted many emails of which I sent in office and to clients.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

You receive a lot of support. Everyone in your client team is willing to help and will call any time you need to go through things. Its true that no question is a silly question and it is preferred that you ask as many questions you can think of to develop your understanding. Even people outside your client team are willing to help, you also get a buddy you can always go to.
