Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a Summer Student within the Investment DB team at Hymans Robertson, I supported a wide range of client, governance, responsible investment and research activities while gaining exposure to different areas of the business. My day-to-day work involved analysing and validating investment data, carrying out asset valuation checks, supporting client deliverables, attending internal and external meetings, researching investment managers, reviewing governance documentation and completing ad hoc project work.
A significant part of my internship focused on a project- alongside this, I contributed to client work, cost transparency exercises, governance reviews and manager research projects, requiring both technical analysis and communication with colleagues across different teams.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes. Throughout my internship I was trusted with meaningful pieces of work that contributed to live projects and client deliverables. Rather than only observing, I was given ownership of tasks and expected to manage them independently while seeking guidance when required.
