Audit Summer Placement Intern Review

Overall the internship was split over three weeks and all online. The first week consisted of company based training for the first three days and audit specific training. This consisted of the principles of accounting and getting familiar with the technology PwC uses for Audits. The second week was all client work. This included helping senior associates and managers with small tasks which contributed to the audit. On top of all of this we were tasked in the first week with a dragons den style project which was presented to a panel of judges in the last week.

During my internship I was surprised by the amount of responsibility I was given from the start. Being put onto client work in the second week, I was responsible for many aspects of the audit and was trusted to complete meaningful work with accuracy and in a timely manner. I would have not expected this from such an early point in the internship or at all. This is extremely rewarding having the opportunity for so much responsibility.

I have learnt new and built on existing skills during my three week stint at PwC. I have developed my technical skills around using PwC technologies and significantly enhanced my network. I have enhanced my skills in the following:
Whole leadership - I have learnt to do the right thing and to escalate inappropriate behaviour or activities when needed (including professional or ethical misconduct or non application of policies)
Relationships - I have learnt to communicate with empathy and to adapt my communication style to meet the needs of the situation and audience

During the internship you receive so much support from various different levels of the business. First of all you are paired with a buddy who will be your first point of call for any non work or work related matters and any questions about anything you may have. They are there to support you all the way through your internship. You also have a career coach who is there to also answer any questions you may have and there to support your progress during the internship. There is also your in charge on your job who is there to support and coach you. Not to forget the student recruitment team.

The culture at PwC is unrivalled to anything I have experienced before. The biggest thing I would say is that everyone is so friendly and willing to help you and answer your questions. No matter how stupid you think they are. There is also a big emphasis on feedback and you are constantly being coached for improvement and encouraged to coach others too. Being in a culture where everyone wants the best for each other is very special and not something that you find often.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would encourage anybody who gets the opportunity to work for or apply to PwC to do so. What I enjoyed the most was meeting so many new people from a variety of backgrounds even though the placement was virtual! The people I have met and the friends I have made have made my time at PwC and I would love to come back as a graduate and work at the firm.
