Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Completing various calculations for members (e.g. Spouse pension calcs, Triv comms etc) and also assisting in the drafting of technical reports such as funding valuations and principle factors.
We worked on a group project from weeks 2 to 8 and presented our final presentation in front of other interns at the end of week 8. We also had weekly calls as an intern cohort allowing us to learn about other areas of the business.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
From my first day in office (we had 3 days training prior to this) I was given client work to complete as well as other responsibilities such as sending a weekly log and also being in charge of managing certain deadlines and chasing more senior colleagues when deadlines weren't being met.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have increased my overall knowledge of the actuarial profession as well as developed my technical knowledge by completing various calculations. In addition I have become more proficient on excel and understand more actuarial related concepts.
Having the opportunity to collaborate with peers on the group presentation and also getting to present the final product helps with develop skills such as public speaking, delegating tasks and working to deadlines.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Aon
Start your application early as like most internship schemes spaces are competitive. Also they offer about 70%-80% of interns a graduate role for the following year so that could be something to consider.
