Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Helping other people on the team with their tasks, shadowing meetings, and researching for the intern project. The work varies but normally is more admin based as you cannot broke as an intern because it's a regulated profession. Meetings are normally very informal (over a coffee etc) with underwriters and offer more insight into how the market functions. The intern project is a company-wide initiative that is normally about a HR-related topic.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Not a lot, but that is mainly because it's a regulated industry.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I learnt how to use Excel and how to communicate in a professional environment. I learnt how to negotiate whilst keeping the clients' interests in mind. I also developed my presenting and teamwork skills.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support and guidance thanks to my manager and my connector (buddy). They made sure that at least one of them was in the office with me as much as possible, and were always happy to answer any questions and give me more work when I needed. They also made sure to introduce me to the team and made it a very welcoming place to be.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It was very open and friendly. Everyone is willing to talk to you about what their role is and answer any questions that you have. Everyone works hard but seems to have a good work-life balance.

I really enjoyed it thanks to my lovely team who I worked with. The work was also quite good, but the team really made it for me.

Be your authentic self- be open and friendly. The Early Careers team are very understanding that most people applying for internships have never had a coporate job before, so don't feel pressured.
