Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
- Part of job is also networking and building relationships, with many socials to foster this sense of community.
- Aon intern group project to be completed with other interns from different solution lines, on topics e.g climate change, wellbeing, etc. This project is presented at the end of the internship.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
- Tasks were assigned following training so good responsibility given to get involved in actuarial work and important reports.
- Some responsibility given also with out of work opportunities, like getting involved in work experience programme targeting secondary school pupils, and joining business resource groups e.g. multicultural and social mobility network.
- There was also a leadership opportunity with the option of being group leader for the internship project

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
- Developed ability to manage deadlines. Sometimes had multiple work streams due at once and had to organise myself to complete all on time.
- Learned to be forthcoming with questions and not being hesitant of asking senior colleagues - everyone was there to help.
- Developed my applied mathematical skills by seeing mathematics in action in models and behind the scene tools used by actuaries.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
- The graduates in the team were a good initial point of contact as had gone through similar training and internships recently, so were supportive with questions and other advice.
- Also opportunity for support with the early careers team, who provided advice e.g financial and support available.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
- As it was summer there were also several socials e.g. board games and sporting, which was great for team building and getting to know others.
- Company culture was strengthened to many company wide events and talks which brought people together, e.g. multicultural network lunch and learns

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
- Enjoyed developing important skills. For example, developed skills on excel and also on attention to detail with calculations and report/specification updating.
- Also found the office culture very accepting and friendly, which made the 9 weeks enjoyable and a great learning experience.

What advice would you give to others applying to Aon
- Expect to learn everything else on the job as difficult to learn the technical skills prior. Others anticipate that there will be difficulties with adjusting at first so asking questions will be really important.
