Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role is to pick up work on Client teams, for example calculating transfer values for members in pension schemes, checking CETVs etc. This involves use of Excel, some basic mathematical ability and lots of talking to people.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
We were given the responsibility of our projects with minimal guidance. In the office I am given responsibility of tasks and it is my responsibility to make sure I understand what I am doing, and if not, to ask appropriate questions. I think we were given a good amount of responsibility.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes. I have learnt lots of social skills, as there are many networking events set up on this internship. We have also been doing a project throughout the 9 weeks so I have learnt to work with others on a task. I have significantly developed my Excel and general computer skills through my work tasks. I have also learnt a lot about the industry, and how Aon operate, as well as lots about the work they do in retirement.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support, mainly from my 'connector' who is a graduate. They would help me out with my work and answer all of my questions. The 'early careers' team were also very supportive during the project, and they made sure we were comfortable presenting at the end of the internship. They did their best to make it not too overwhelming,

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I really enjoyed working in both the London and Epsom office. My main office was Epsom, and it was so nice to be able to know the names of everyone there. I felt like it was such a nice atmosphere and everyone was friendly and happy to help. Our office had plenty of social events, and I always felt I was included in these despite only being there for a few weeks.

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I met so many interesting people that I will keep in contact with. I learnt invaluable corporate skills and feel much more comfortable entering the working world next year. There were so many great opportunities and I would very happily come back to this company in the future.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Aon
I would tell them to definitely do it as I have had a great summer. I think it is important to be yourself during the interview process, and find out lots about the job. The interviews are two-fold and you need to work out if you actually want the job as there is no point doing something you won't enjoy.
