Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The summer internship lasted for three weeks. There was a week consisting of induction and service line training (eg audit, tax, risk, etc.) and two weeks of client work. Main interactions were with your engagement team. No prior knowledge were required for the internship, they will teach you. The induction was led by student recruitment while the training was lead by PwC associates and above. Teams ranged from 3 people to 20+, depends on which engagement you're on.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The induction was very detailed, and informative about PwC. It covered a range of topics, to PwC values, commitments, sustainability, diversity and inclusion, panel of speakers and interactions with people from different lines of service. This was useful in gaining an understanding of PwC as a whole and the opportunities within the company. We also had an introduction to the potential professional qualifications available within different roles and routes. This covered the structure of the qualifications and the exam fail policy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, there was a fantastic range of self led training on their platform on a huge range of different areas, eg Excel, leadership, etc. I also developed my communication skills by interacting with fellow interns, associates, senior associates and managers. I learned how to use Aura and developed my proficiency in audit as a whole. I also gained confidence in public speaking by speaking up in meetings and doing presentations to other interns and people from PwC.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at PwC was friendly, inclusive and welcoming. It was easy to contact people if you had questions and get a prompt reply. There were many opportunities available to network and make friends despite the programme being virtual, eg we had scheduled networking sessions with our intern peers. There were no leisure or sports clubs due to the online nature of the programme. We worked with a sustainable enterprise to give back to the community.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the summer internship progamme. It was very well organised, with a clear timetable for each day. I had the opportunity to network with other interns, did some basic work and learned a lot about audit. Despite coming in with no knowledge of audit, I was made to feel valued and like my work mattered. I did actual work for the client in the engagement team and people were very happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
I would recommend by yourself most of all! PwC values diversity and welcomes people from all backgrounds. Make sure you know why you want to apply for the specific line of service, and also why PwC. The assessment centre was well run; it will be a busy day, but relax, do your preparation and try your best. PwC is a fantastic firm and offers a solid foundation to build your career upon. Control what you can (practice psychometric testing etc) and you will be just fine.
