Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked on a project with Travel and Lifestyle services, both designing the backend architecture and implementing it. I used Java (Spring) and Couchbase, and the frontend team used React. Standups at the start of each day.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Our team was given a comparatively large amount of responsibility compared to other interns/intern teams. We were tasked with designing & developing a customer facing application from the ground up, which also integrates with other internal systems. We were heavily involved in the design process and it was very much our project, with the rest of the team just supporting when asked.

Learned and enhanced many new technical skills, including architectural design and programming.
Also more soft skills, enhanced communication & distilling information, and developing software in a team setting.

Plenty of support from all parts of the team, regardless of level of seniority. Very much a culture where you can ask anyone anything and they'll be ahppy to help.
