Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As part of data team, one of the main roles this team deals with is maintaining data pipelines, as well as creating new ones. As part of the day to day work, it involved making sure other engineers were able to see the data and confirm that the data was accurate. Even as a industrial placement engineer, after some training I was also taking part in doing this.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

After the beginning training and pairing up, I started picking up tickets on my own and building up my knowledge. I would also get suggestions from team members when they thought I was ready to pick up a ticket on a new part of our teck stack.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I developed my pythons skills a bit further due to it being the main language the team deals with. I also learnt how to use new software such as tools provided by the Google cloud platform (eg. Big query), looker, dbt and terraform/terragrunt

I received plenty of support from my team and other co-workers within the office. There was never a time when there wasn't someone I could to for help.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I would thoroughly enjoyed my placement, as I've said everyone was very welcoming and I learn a lot while being within the team. It very much helped with my socializing skills as well.
