Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
3 days a week, I work from home. I attend virtual meetings on topics ranging from work culture, market performance, and sustainability goals. The remaining 2 days a week, I shadow my line manager completing his day-to-day tasks, and accompany him to meetings with clients.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
From the beginning of my second week working at the company, I was tasked with compiling relevant information learned from a client meeting (which I attended with my manager) into a formal report, which was then reviewed and posted to the company's internal client database as a reference for employee's searching for information on that specific client.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Relationship management - at the most basic level, learning how to professionally interact with clients - has been an invaluable lesson I doubt I would learn to the same extent at any other company: Coutts is famed for its impeccable service to their clients.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was assigned a buddy and a line manager. A week before my internship started, I went for brunch with my buddy and we got to know each other well, which made me feel a lot more confident about starting my internship, knowing that I had a friendly face to reach out to. My line manager also got in touch with me over zoom before I started.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
When working from home, the company is very relaxed about dress code, and they are generous with time (flexibility). In the office, the dress code is more formal, but not more than any other company. The responsibility that you are given as an intern means that you are also given your own time to complete the tasks - you mostly have free reign to complete you tasks, as long as you hit the deadline.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I haven't finished my internship yet, but I honestly don't have a bad word to say about my experience. All the staff have been so welcoming, and genuinely go out of their way/give up their time to help you. The interns are great too - you'd be surprised how much you can bond over zoom!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend NatWest Group to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group
Be confident in your abilities - NatWest Group want to see interns speak up when they have a good idea, or think something could be improved. Make sure you know what you're talking about - do you research: at a company with such a deep-rooted history in the banking world, and at such a reputable company, you need to know your facts. And if you're not sure, just ask - no one will judge you!
