Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Leading and supporting various ongoing product resolution projects. Communicating with internal and external stakeholders/suppliers/experts to assist in completing projects. Completing test data analysis. Producing change request packages for implementation of changes and managing them through various review stages. Reviewing internal and external engineering standards to ensure product compliance.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I co-led a bill of material project after two weeks of training, where I was given free reign to improve and streamline this process. I'm leading a product resolution project with supervision which started two months into the placement, which fully exposed me to the full 7 step process and has been responsible for a large portion of my development. I am also responsible for numerous change packages

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Considering the pandemic meant I've worked from home for nearly all of the placement, I received great support from Cummins. My team has been friendly and approachable, making it easy to get guidance on how to solve issues with my work. I've also been assigned a mentor as another outlet to discuss issues.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to experience office life due to the pandemic. However, all the colleagues I've spoken to have been friendly on Zoom and in emails. A few virtual site wide events have been run which were good ways to interact with new people. Cummins' volunteering program (EEEC) was still run this year with a real emphasis on giving back to the local community.

I have really enjoyed working for Cummins this year. All the projects I have supported and led have been engaging and challenging, giving real opportunities for personal development and growth. The company culture is one that is inclusive and diverse, with all levels of the company treating one another with respect. Given the pandemic, the placement has met my expectations and I would definitely consider working for Cummins after completing my degree.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
Research the company thoroughly- their values, mission, vision for the future. Try to give different scenarios when answering interview questions (not necessarily just projects you've done at university). If you have to do a presentation during the assessment centre, be confident in what you are talking about and if possible think about any links to Cummins.
