Commercial Audit Summer Intern Review

You will be assigned a buddy who will guide you through your internship. They will show you how their typical day looks, clients they have been assigned to and applications they use. You will be exposed to the various tasks they do and help out on completing some documents. You will be in contact with your client, always keeping them updated of the current process of the audit. You will work with your team through the various stages of audit and will collaborate with them to create the best audit possible for the client.

Yes, once your team shows you the ropes of the job, you will be given responsibility in filling out certain documents. Of course when filled out all documents are run through managers and above to check for errors before being sent to the client but this responsibility is that you will be putting together a document which is checked directly by a manger which to some may feel like quite the task. But PwC entrusts all of its staff which is great to see as I didn't expect as much responsibility as PwC gives. This is great experience for future however.

Along my internship, you learn many many valuable skills. Firstly, communication with your team is key. Being my first "office" job, it was very new and great to experience communication in a professional environment. Second, you develop the ability to work with excel. Most of the day is spent on excel documents looking at figures and analysing them to make sure they all add up. Investigation is also key in this role as there are many instances where you need to track back numbers and investigate why certain figures are the value they are.

At PwC the guidance is offered to a very high degree. You are assigned a career coach who will manage your performance but then are also assigned a buddy who is more of the person who you will ask questions to day to day. The policy of always asking questions and being inquisitive makes it very easy to ask questions of the task at hand and the staff here are all always happy to help.

There is a very good atmosphere when in the office, everyone is always so welcoming and pleasant making it feel like a very comfortable work space. There is a very good balance between break and rest areas, and work areas which is nice as during the day its key to break up working time. The culture of the company is also positive and within the office you meet people from all over the world with totally different cultures which enables us interns to learn things about people we never knew before.

It was a very enjoyable experience, and something I would definitely love to devote my working career towards. PwC allows its staff to work flexibly from home and the office and you are very free as to when to take your breaks. But as every business is, getting your work done is the key priority. That is very important for a firm to be flexible as it makes the longevity of working at the firm more of an option.
