Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
On a day-to-day basis at DLA Piper, I may be given a series of tasks varying from, scheduling, second-sensing documents, printing or scanning, research tasks, pro bono work, case summaries, billing, stamping court documents, and going to court.
As an intern I have also made time to meet with trainees, associates, and partners to learn more about their journey into law and their practice.
From talking and showing interest in different sectors of a practice group, you are often invited to join client calls, or prepare pitches for these calls.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes! Which I really appreciated during my summer internship. I was given tasks that varied from low urgency to high urgency!
I learnt the most from the high urgency and complex tasks. It is a great experience to do a difficult task, submit it, and feel as though you have benefitted the team!

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Coming straight from university and never having done an internship before, I can definitely say I have learnt new skills. Things such as stamping court documents, is something I had never done before, and is something I have not yet been thought. So this is a good example of something simple that I have learnt and can bring into the future!
I have improved on simple things such as email etiquette, public speaking and reviewing documents.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
In DLA Piper, you are set up with a Trainee Buddy for both seats. Trainee Buddies are great because they remember what it was like to be a summer intern so they don't mind silly questions!!
From my experience, everyone in the wider team were great too! From associates to partners, everyone was willing to help when you were completing a task!

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
DLA Piper Dublin has a great atmosphere about it! Everyone is super friendly and everyone gets along with one another.
I always felt included in what was going on around me and it was great to work in an atmosphere that encouraged involvement.
The two teams that I was with during my internship were both dynamic and welcoming!

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I loved it! I have learnt so much in my short time here that no law book could ever teach me. Everyone was so lovely and I definitely would feel comfortable reaching out to them in the future. I would recommend to people in the year below me to definitely apply. Overall, I couldn't recommend it enough!
