Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Piloting a method to create gene association networks from RNA-seq data. Applying this method to different datasets with the aim to identify key disease genes and genes affected by treatment. Creating a web app to allow scientists to compare subnetworks and explore networks. Presented work in meetings, attended various talks to learn about AI in drug development.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I have been given the independence and space to work on my project and research how to move forward with it. Given the responsibility to create a web app to present results.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, developed python skills- matplotlib, creating network visualisations, dash app development, GitHub, shell scripting, R coding, presenting and communicating complex ideas, biology understanding- drug development, transcription, translation, cell signalling.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very friendly atmosphere, feel valued as an employee and encouraged to speak out about any concerns. The company holds a lot of social events for early talent and interesting talks.
