Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
As an intern in the finance department, I was exposed to work in a large variety of areas, ranging from capital markets and structured investments to project finance. I did differing work on these deals, including taking minutes of client meetings, reviewing documents and drafting written resolutions for agreements.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
During our induction week, we had lots of talks with people from all different areas of the business, such as pro bono and head of tech, whilst also hearing from people at all the different stages of a legal career, including the Head of the London Office. Therefore, I received a high level explanation of progression through the business in addition to gaining a strong understanding of the type of work the lawyers can do.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I feel the scheme was very useful for developing my analytical and critical writing skills. When reviewing documents for clients, it is very important to ensure that everything is in order and to their satisfaction. Instead of feeling under pressure when doing work, I felt the environment and culture of those at the firm helped me to thrive and be confident in doing the work to a high ability.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was very strong during the vacation scheme. Everyone was very friendly, approachable and willing to help.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoyed the insight a lot as all the other students were very easy to get along with. Also, the work, whilst challenging was very rewarding and gave me a good insight into what life as a trainee would be like.
