Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

There is no daily routine everyday is different. Projects are constantly changing as well as the work. I support with larger scaled projects and managed third party projects. I have improved governance projects at the beginning of the placement and this is something that i take ownership of and maintain.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes i was given responsibilities for lots of tasks and this was for me to take over and maintain. This is something that i checked in with my manager regularly and helped me feel independent.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes I have learned budget control, the project lifecycle, how to improve governance processes and effective stakeholder management. This has changed and improved my outlook on my work as the placement has progressed.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

When i seeked support my manager/colleagues were a message away. Everyone is super supportive and always happy to help. At the beginning of my placement i was afraid to ask and bother people but whenever i needed support a message/call was all that was needed.
I have weekly meetings with my manager to discuss my progression, what went well, what i could improve. This is good as it helped my drive value out of my placement.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture has been great! I have enjoyed getting to know the team and the atmosphere is friendly and easy to settle in.
I did struggle to fit into the IT Team as there's not many Gen Y's therefore its hard to make friends within the department but i think this is slowly adapting.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed my placement very much. The IT Team is small but its easy to identify and fit in with the team. All the opportunities I requested from my manger within my team and outside - she always arranged and enabling me to gain the experience in all areas.
I have got involved with outreach opportunities like charity events and university talks to students about my experience. this has all added value into the career i want to pursue in the future.
