Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
You are given a timetable of the days that you are there. Multiple speakers talk to you about each of the propositions within economics consulting, these are the 9 that can be found on the company website. You are provided with the opportunity to have coffee catchups with senior members of the economics consulting team. You are required to manage your time yourself attending the correct meetings on time and taking breaks appropriately. You are given one task to complete that will align with the proposition your mentor does over the 3 days and the mentor you are given checks in on you multiple times over the 3 days to make sure everything is going well.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very inspiring to hear stories of those who worked in the economics consulting team and business as well as learn about their career journeys. It opens your eyes to how much economics really matters in a career within economics consulting and that you are making complete use of your degree. Learning more about the potential roles available was very intriguing as I did not realise an associate does very different things across all 9 propositions within Economics consulting. Also you learn more about how the role changes as you are promoted which in itself was interesting to learn about.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt how to layout a formal report document including how to align, the font size and type to use, how to incorporate PwC branding and logos into the work that they do so that it comes across professional and consistent to the client. Importantly I have learnt how to ask meaningful questions to make the most out of the program and develop connections that are long lasting and useful for the future. Skills developed include interpersonal skills and most importantly time management skills via having to be independent in the work that I had to do and to organise my own time.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
3/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was very friendly, always being supportive and there to help with any struggles or questions you may have. There are multiple company wide events that occur to support charities, religious events, LGBTQ+ events and celebrations in general. There are multiple networks you can be a part of including a network for each religion, SHINE (LGBTQ+), DAWN (Disabilities), Colour Brave (Racial Equality), Gender Balance (gender equality) as well as many others. These networks cover the whole of PwC but specifically have smaller networks within each line of service too, in my example there was a Diversity and Inclusion and Women's network within the consulting line of service and Economics Consulting as well, showing the importance of them down to the individual level.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really did enjoy the insight, it was great to find out more about the team sizes, the type of the work that Economics Consultants do and to network with senior members of the team. The most enjoyable part of the insight was to do some work for the client that will actually be used in the final report that will be submitted, it made me feel like a particularly valued member of the team and the insight far exceeded my expectations. I would definitely go back if I had the chance to do so.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
In the video interview make sure you are prepared via recording yourself and seeing how you come across on video. Make sure you have core motivations covered and have a look at the PwC professional to make sure you are covering the core competencies. For the assessment centre make sure to keep a diary of the tasks provided to you so you can keep on top of the tasks and complete them all in the time period given. If I reapplied I would make sure to look deeper into the 9 propositions to find out the exact 2 or 3 that I would like to learn more about so that I could go into the program knowing what questions I wanted to ask.
