Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The insight was 3 days long and gave me the opportunity to explore the world of tax at PwC. This entailed meeting senior team members from all across the sector for coffee morning chats, sitting in on and being able to ask questions in larger virtual meetings, and helping to work on ongoing client projects. This work involved using Companies House to write company descriptions, as well as learning about capital allowances (CSA).
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Very reassuring to understand that PwC is a very flexible company made up of many sectors, which gives employees the ability to transfer to different teams to trial them out, or even to different offices across the country and internationally, through taking secondment. Was also relieved to hear that no single employee at PwC knows completely about all of the other sectors within the business, given how huge of a company it is!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed my networking skills hugely, as had the opportunity to talk to lots of people within the business, including a couple of partners which was initially faily intimidating! It also encouraged me to use LinkedIn more actively, helping me to finetune my skills when posting about my work experiences, including this shadowing experience at PwC, as well as my confidence at writing messages and connecting with new people I had met.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Absolutely loved the company culture and atmosphere and despite the whole experience being online, this was still translated across to me! The culture seemed to very much align with what PwC promotes on their website, including the ability to work flexibly and honestly. Everyone I met was extremely lovely and very personable, and I had not needed to worry about meeting partners within the business because they too were very friendly and forgiving!

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I loved gaining the opportunity to work more closely with a couple of team members- these being the two senior associates that I shadowed- and also gaining their trust to work on some smaller tasks for projects they are working on with their team. I would definitely love to do the experience again and just wish that it could have lasted longer than three days!

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
It is definitely important to look over PwC's website page and get to grips with their company structure and values before applying. In regards to the assessment centre, be prepared for it to be a long experience and to also make sure you manage your time well with what is given to you. Finally, the best way of preparing is to try and familiarise yourself with the business and come up with questions for the employees.
