Marketing Assistant - Placement Student Review

I am based in the UK but I work as part of the US team working on e-commerce. My role on a day-to-day basis consists of working on email marketing, blog writing, social media, and campaign analytics.

I have been given a lot of responsibility during my placement as I am trusted to edit and update the website, produce and develop new content on various platforms, as well as provide input of my ideas for campaigns going forward.

I have learnt how to use different software such as Google Analytics, Knak, Photoshop and Illustrator since starting my placement. I have also learnt the different processes for creating content and getting this approved to be used for marketing campaigns. I have greatly developed both my written and verbal communication skills since starting my placement as I use this on an everyday basis.

I received a lot of support from both my direct team and other teams I have worked with in the business as well. No question is too small to ask and everyone is very happy to help. Placement students are also provided access to an online course across the year to develop our skills which I feel really helped me develop skills I may not have had a chance to otherwise, such as in Microsoft Excel and data insight.

Everyone is very kind and always happy to help which I found very encouraging. Working hybrid, both online and in office, allowed me to experience this friendly culture through both of these.

I am very glad that I chose this role and to work for Cummins for my placement year. I feel that this has not only massively developed my professional skills, but also my personal skills which I am very grateful for.
