Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The aim of VPI is to introduce new or developing products into the plant as seamlessly as possible. This requires the team being involved throughout the entire lifecycle of a product, to resolve any issues that arise during product development and provide realistic solutions. This often results in reaching out interdepartmentally to form an appropriate cross functional team capable of collaborating to generate suitable alternatives.
My Main Responsibilities as VPI Placement Student:
Updating, Creating and Planning Process Documents
Generating Material for Design Reviews
Checking Configurations and Engine BOMs (Bill of Materials)
Fitting Developmental Parts during Engine Builds
Fit-Checking Components
Logging, Tracking, Updating, and Resolving Build Issues
Provide Updates and Insights during Project Meetings
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
After a few months I was given sole responsibility for several key aspects of various projects. I also continually felt that my opinion and ideas in meetings were respected and given adequate value and weighting.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Initially I received a large volume of support and guidance, but possibly a little too much at once at the start. However, this evened out after the first couple months and as I gained independence in certain areas the team respected my authority in areas rather than talking down to me. Support throughout was generally amazing.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
As Cummins is a global company your interview could either be in person or online depending on where your manager is based. Ensure that you have followed the guidelines on preparing your presentation, and that you have practiced running through it. The interview is more personality than technical knowledge so be sure to show your passion, interests, and USPs and how they link to points in your CV you want to highlight.
Use this time to ask any questions you have about the company and role such as dress code, remote working policy, working hours, holiday allowance, start date, tasks, salary, etc.
