First year Spring Intern Review

Participated in various panels, workshops and engaged in shadow work experience, immersing one’s self into various aspect of the commercial/corporate legal sector.
Was encouraged to Network with fellow peers and respected employees gaining in depth insight into the firm.

I learnt a plethora of aspects that underpin the global giant Latham & Watkins. From solicitors, to business developers, graduate recruitment etc. I learnt a the opportunities and the various cultural aspects that fundamentally create this office, and by extension the firm. I learnt about the various skills necessitated to be a distinguished lawyer and what L&W are looking for.

I learnt to draft and review in a Due-Diligence setting, learning the importance of reviewing and attention to detail.
I learnt about interpersonal skills and the nuanced aspects of active listening and emotional intelligence, particularly in a negotiation setting.
I learnt the importance of time management, and the importance of prioritising one’s work and its impact on others.

L&W was depicted as an incredibly diverse law firm from individuals to wider D&I affinity groups. The culture was very welcoming and everyone was very friendly. The flat hierarchy was clear and made it more engaging as a result, I was more comfortable to ask questions.

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience from beginning to end, and could not fault it in the slightest. Everyone was pleasant and the experience was fulfilling and enlightening! Truly a highlight of my legal career and the year!
