Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I am involved in a few separate projects which I divide up by the time I have allocated to each over the course of the week. One of them involves machine learning and the other two are concerned with safety engineering. The work is varied so I can't give a normal daily schedule as it is constantly changing and adapting to that is a key skill of the job.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of autonomy on projects but never without the help as well. The key for me was realising that help was available but the general idea was that they would throw me into projects first. It could be scary, but I think in the long-term it boosts your confidence significantly as you know you can face any task and you know what tools you have to deal with challenges.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
My exposure to new domains and fields has definitely increased both the skills I've learnt and the knowledge in the skills I have. I came in knowing nothing about safety engineering but I've been guided into the processes of assuring safety-critical systems. I've also picked up machine learning skills, something I hadn't had the chance to do at university so far.

My Line Manager was always available and very supportive. She has guided me and given me useful advice for adapting to the new work environment. Being so friendly and experienced made me feel more comfortable and made the transition from university to placement much easier.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Frazer-Nash Consultancy to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Frazer-Nash Consultancy
I would suggest getting in touch and finding a team that is doing work that you are passionate about. The company will fit you in the best position for yourself. I would also recommend city centre offices if possible as they are more lively for younger people although I'm sure anyone would have a positive experience wherever they worked.
