Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first week is spent in the London office with all the internship cohort. This week involves several workshops and talks from the senior leadership at the firm - as well as lots of tasty food! The following two weeks are spent in your respective regional offices. In each of these two weeks, you are placed in a different practice area - at least one will be one of your preferences.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
DLA operates with a ‘one firm’ approach. Being able to witness how this actually functions during the internships was really insightful. The clear advantage of such a business model for its lawyers is that they are able to get involved in work of the highest quality regardless of their location. This approach also impressed me because it enables the firm’s lawyers to connect with colleagues all around the world - which creates opportunities to relocate!

I was able to polish a lot of my skills such as commercial awareness, legal writing and research skills. The tasks you are given are designed in such ways that you are able to learn something new from them.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at the firm is amazing - hierarchy is minimal and everyone is very approachable. Some departments might be more social than others, but no one is really restricted to their departments as you get to know everyone at the firm very quickly!

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the internship because I was given a variety of tasks which enabled me to learn a lot of new things. At the same time you are given many opportunities to have fun with fellow interns and also network with people at the firm. The right balance of work and fun made everything less stressful and this ultimately led to an overall positive experience!

Research the firm well to find lots of interesting and impressive examples relevant to the firm to enhance the points you make in your written application and on your assessment centre day. This will ensure you stand out from the crowd!
