Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first week was an induction week with your whole cohort (all of the summer internship students across all of DLA’s offices). The second and third week was spent in 2 separate departments. During this, I engaged in client calls where I took meeting minutes, assisted with legal research, completed drafting of different legal documents and did a contract review task.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
During the induction week, we had lots of sessions where we learnt more about the business, and the International Training Programme on offer (and how we would be assessed for this).

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was so lovely - everyone (from Partners to Secretarial support staff) took time to welcome us into the office and we often had coffees with different members of the team. Everyone was very approachable and I felt as if I could always ask any questions I had.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the Internship - it provided me a great insight into a career as a commercial solicitor and also DLA Piper itself.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
Be yourself! The firm is extremely inclusive and is not a place where you need to hide who you are. Also, in the application form write about a news story that actually interests you and relates to you - it can be anything! I wrote about the rising energy bills and how it impacted me as a student!
