Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Planning and carrying out lab work. Attend meeting to be kept in the loop of project work. Work on presentations to display my data. Carry out data analysis.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, after showing my competence I was given responsibility creating and delivering scientific update presentations to our team. I was also responsible for ordering my own reagents and scheduling and planning my lab work.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture seemed very deadline based, many scientists were busy and stressed a lot of the time. Having to juggle many different aspects of their job. However as I student I didn't face these stresses. There are a few events during the year to provide inter-departmental communication however I feel there was a disconnect between the different teams within my department. Often you only know the details of your team's projects. More should be done to promote communication between teams. And less pressure from managers
