Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Listening to Zoom presentations and one group task.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
We had a series of talks from managing partners across the firm. Generally, they said similar things. We had an overview of other areas of the business such as innovation and diversity, but it would have been good to have more talks on the practice areas and work involved.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learned how to raise my hand quickly on a 100 person Zoom call and not much more! We had to complete a group task that consisted of a pitch presentation but, considering we had to do a group task and presentation in the assessment centre, this did not teach a great deal in terms of new skills. I was disappointed in not being able to do any actual legal tasks or work.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The scheme turned me off of wanting to work at the firm. The employees I encountered did not appear to be particularly inspired by their work. There were no opportunities to get to know the other vacation schemers (outside of our 3-4 person group project) or engage with staff members outside the 100 person calls. The trainees did not seem particularly well supported due to the size of the firm and qualification seemed ruthless.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
It was disappointing. A vacation scheme should provide legal experience, as well as assessing whether you would like to join the firm. After getting through a rigorous recruitment process, it was draining and provided no real enrichment to spend a week listening to Zoom presentations and then present back what we had learned about the firm. The most enjoyable part was when we briefly broke into smaller office-based groups on the penultimate day.
