Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked with the commodities team. I was tasked with building a dashboard to show the usage statistics of an application. I would regularly speak with members of my team and would also work with the full time employees to help code in new features of their application.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Since I was given my own project, I was responsible that it would be developed to the best possible standard and that it would be functional for the team to use. Since I also contributed to the codebase of their project, I feel that I was given a responsibility to ensure that the work I produced was functionable and of a high standard.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I developed my knowledge of the financial markets, especially within the commodities asset class. I also greatly developed my programming skills, specifically with developing frontend applications and working with databases. I had never worked with JavaScript before and now I can confidently say that I am up to a intermediate standard.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received a lot of help and support from my manager, and the wider team throughout the internship. Any questions I had, they were always quick to answer. The HR team also supported me a lot throughout my onboarding.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was very welcoming and everyone was so friendly to speak to. While everyone was hard working, people still made time to chat to the interns and speak to me.
