Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The scheme was structured as a serious of networking sessions with our allocated offices, panels with trainees and talks given by firm leadership. There was also an opportunity to hear from representatives of the various Diversity & Inclusion Groups and the Pro Bono Team.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was truly engaging and insightful being able to hear all about the various opportunities present at the firm in relation to: secondments, pro bono initiatives, client work and the diversity/breadth of multi-jurisdictional work.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have been able to develop my interpersonal and critical analysis skills. This was via the social interactivity and tasks assigned to us over the duration of the week (group project involving presenting a pitch in front of partners and written exercise)

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very inviting, entrepreneurial and transparent. The firm cares about what everyone has to say; specifically, they are strong advocates for self-expression and independent mindsets. Working at DLA entails being able to truly take charge of your own learning while still having the benefit of regular developmental opportunities. Everyone supports everyone which was great to see.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
Despite it being virtual, the Graduate Recruitment Team did a fantastic job making it jam-packed with interesting sessions. While it would have been nice to meet people in person, I personally still felt like I was able to gain the most out of this experience!

Don't be afraid to be yourself. There isn't a specific mould to the ideal DLA lawyer; embrace your individuality and believe yourself. The firm is market leading precisely because people aren't put into boxes.
In the application process ensure you triple check everything from content to punctuation. Go beyond the basic research and highlight things you are truly passionate about.
