Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role involved creating events and activities for students wishing to enter the corporate world at PWC. This meant I was in charge of managing the students and providing them information they required. Day to day my role involved lots of emails, communicating with a wide array of employees from other interns to partners , engaging them in my activities. I also had regular team meetings to discuss what each member of the team is doing and how we can all assist each other.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement. My manager encouraged and trusted me to take on my own projects which was really nice and helpful for my development. My team was always there to support me if I needed help but all trusted me to get on with my work and that it would be produced to a high quality. I did not feel like an intern , rather another normal employee which i valued.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The skill I developed most was my excel skills, after entering the firm with very limited I was taught all the basic functions but most importantly VLOOKUP. In terms of my soft skills I was able to develop teamwork, leadership and communications but most crucially public speaking confidence which I could not do prior to working at PWC, after being thrown in the deep end and encouraged to speak to seniors above my level and present my ideas, I was able to grow my confidence

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support, at the start I was clearly overwhelmed so my manager and my team made sure to support my tasks and make sure I was comfortable in doing those tasks on my own in the future. I was also greatly supported in my wellness and mental health, if things became too much I was allowed to take a step back and focus on maintaining my wellness which was a great addition to the company culture

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture varies depending on your team. In internal teams it is very healthy, everybody cares for each others development and mental health, nobody is forced to work long hours and the work is spread throughout the team. Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my placement, it was at my dream company in a great role. It provided me with many opportunities that I would never have had access to previously and allowed me to push myself out of my comfort zone. I would recommend this company for career development for graduates and there is a large social scene too for grads. My year was not solely working, I enjoyed and attended different events and learnt a lot about what I wanted my future role to be

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
Really read into the role you are applying for, as often the role is more than what is written. So please reach out to other employees on LinkedIn in the role you are applying to as they can provide an accurate description of the role which would really help in interviews. Research is key! The more research you can do for niche topics in the company is great , what initiatives are they currently running, something that other candidates may not know
