Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Most days involve meeting with stakeholders and external media agencies to discuss current media plans and spending to make sure we are fully pushing media (paid search, social, affiliate etc) as hard as we can. This also invlvoes keeping track of all the promos the brands launch as well as any new products. I will then also complete any errors that the D2C (direct to consumer) sites are flagging (pricing error, ranking, PDP refresh).
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
In a word, yes. I can't say I ever once felt like an intern when I was working or in meetings. With the level of work you are doing and the deadlines that need to be met, there isn't time for 'red tape' or people to not work. Your ideas are valued just as much as any other employees and the more you prove yourself, the more responsibility and notability you receive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I did have a flair for all things digital and like most use Google every day. What I have learnt though is how much planning and time is spend trying to break into the paid search market as well as how difficult competitors make it for the brand sites. Having to come up with new paid search offers and ideas has also been a new skill I've had the pleasure of learning.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received as much support as was possible during my placement. There were times that were tough and challenging, but these were really due to workloads and stress. Which can be easily sorted when talking to stakeholders or a line manager. But I think the business understands this might be difficult for some, so regularly asks if everyone (the intern cohort) is doing okay.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
During the 'covid year' I would say the culture was work focused, but also really eye opening. Being able to see people in their homes and where they are most comfortable, meant they could open up so you could have some really great conversations with people. While work was also important and as you don't have to commute, most people do start work earlier but you could then finish later which was nice.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I didn't have any idea what to expect from the year with onboarding during Covid, going into the office maybe 10 times and working from home. But I have massively enjoyed it, the people are what make the business and they are always on hand to help if you get stuck or want to learn more. It is much harder then I could have imagined, but still well worth it.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend L'Oreal to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
DO YOUR RESEARCH. The amount of people I met that wanted to join but then went on to say a brand that we didn't own was astonishing. Go on the website and look at the divisions and the brands that sit within us. The assessment centre can be brutal, but try not to stress and make sure you be yourself as that is who they will be seeing for the next year.
