Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role was within the Waters lab, where I engaged in microbiological tests of water samples and sent contaminated samples for identification
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes. I eventually was able to enter aseptic areas alone and engage in individual microbiological testing myself as well as reading plates independently

This role allowed me to develop my microbiological skills e.g., reading agar plates and recognition of bacterial colonies as well as introducing new skills e.g., pour plates; filtration and streaking agar

The team were absolutely fantastic at accommodating me as well as being supportive while I trained and asked questions about the work while I got my bearings.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I have never felt so welcomed whilst starting a new job, and the culture within my team was amazing. It was a diverse and friendly team with everyone treating me as if they had known me for years.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
This internship has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I am so lucky to have been trained and treated as I have been. I would highly recommend working at AZ to anybody wishing to develop their scientific skills and wanting to work within a laboratory environment.

What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca
I would advise people to be themselves and try not to get nervous during the interview - it was an easy application process and everybody has been so welcoming. Also, ask as many questions as you wish, everybody was always very willing to answer
