Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role had daily tasks including putting through purchase orders, ordering and sending samples to journalists, running Staff meetings, and helping agency workers around the world to gain access to Intel's network. Other roles included producing a monthly EMEA-wide newsletter, helping on large-scale events in European countries, and training other workers on the tasks that I do.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Intel is highly recognised for being a placement that does not give you mundane, menial tasks e.g. getting coffee for people. You are 100% trusted and responsible for your own tasks and also have the opportunity to help out on larger projects where you could own significantly important company-wide roles.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The biggest skill I have learnt is resilience. In a fast-paced office environment there will be times when you need to prioritise things, and step back from things that are overwhelming you in order to protect your standard of work. This can be disheartening but understanding the reasoning why and bouncing back is essential. Additionally, I have developed my adaptability (e.g. adapting to different management styles).

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
This was completely up to me. I had a manager, mentor, and for a short period an experienced intern training me. I was closest to my mentor, who provided me with lots of emotional support and was generally someone I could chat to. My manager was very supportive in my career progression and encouraged me in my role.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Almost everyone you speak to at Intel will tell you that they have been at Intel for more than 5-10 years. Once people join, they really don't want to leave! You can see why when working here as it is a very people-based company. It just so happened that I joined at a time when the company was struggling slightly and there was a mass corporate people movement (redundancies and pay cuts).

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
It was one of the best years of my life. Because there were so many other interns it felt like a mini uni in itself, with freshers at the start and end! My team were amazing, and I learnt so so much about the world and myself whilst working here. There were definitely some tough moments but it's been so worth it, and I've grown as a person.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Intel Corporation to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Intel Corporation
Go in with enthusiasm. Intel is a very person-centred company and they look for people who will integrate well in the team. Be yourself and be confident - you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
