Data & Analytics Intern Review

I worked as an intern in the Data Science & Innovation team. Our team basically had the aim to improve the efficiency and accuracy of bank products/services. For the same, I worked with datasets, performing in-depth analysis to establish relations between multiple factors. I also ran machine learning algorithms to predict the labels for the dataset.

Since I was the junior most in my teams, I had understandably the least responsibility in my team. But as part of an intern challenge, we had to propose a new feature for the bank app that hyper-personalises the banking experience for the customers.
For the same, coming from a data science background, I took responsibility for the modelling behind the feature and the whole coding for the same.

My university degree had introduced me to the principles of data analysis and machine learning. As part of my internship, I was able to use and apply them in a corporate setup on a real-word, real time data set. Unlike an artificial dataset, it had outliers which made the analysis more interesting.
Via the company, I already had access to DataCamp where I upskilled my Python skills and also learnt beginner SQL.

The office environment was really supportive and helpful. At every point where I was confused or just needed technical support, I had the option to ask anyone in my team, Ask Archie the in-house AI bot of the bank, or simply the person sitting next to me.
Even if not for my team project, I had multiple meetings with people from other teams and other offices to sought advice for my intern challenge project.

In one word, supportive. Extremely positive and comfortable. The office does not feel like an office. The big intern community was also helpful, but the company itself had also tried to make the 10 weeks as smooth as possible, with pre-planned socials, events and well-being sessions.

I enjoyed my internship to the fullest. I was lucky to be assigned on a team that did exactly what I wanted to do. So, I was very happy with my work and responsibilities. The intern challenge project was also a fun activity to boost my creative skills. The socials and CSR initiatives were also really diverse and enjoyable.
