Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
We had three work rotations across four weeks, during which we'd be integrated into live project teams and help with client-facing work. Additionally, we could volunteer to help on other projects of interest and had regular lectures, workshops, and case studies with PwC subject matter experts.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
We were given a lot of responsibility. We were able to make meaningful and creative contributions to client projects, and were trusted to join and interact in client-facing meetings.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
PwC poured significant resources into teaching us about sustainability at wide, their business offering, and how to progress our own careers. I learnt how client engagement cycles work, as well as how to manage myself within that process. I also learnt important technical skills through my project work.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
We were supported by a) a buddy (typically an associate), b) a career coach (a manager or senior manager), and c) by various higher levels of authority - from the resourcing team, to the Sustainability team at wide. It is honestly one of the nicest teams I've ever been a part of and the support was incredible throughout! We had biweekly check-ins as to our progress and wellbeing.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
PwC is notorious for working hard, which is certainly true. However, the Sustainability team has a wonderful culture wherein everyone is allowed to be themselves. The dress code ('Dress for your day') meant that people often wore jeans and t-shirts to the office. Everyone was incredibly kind and supportive to the interns!

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I had an amazing time and would recommend it to anyone. We had lots of networking events: a Jenga icebreaker, escape room, environmental volunteering day, various afterwork events, a crazy golf social. The internship cohort was 36 people, and all of us became very close. And generally speaking, the 4 weeks flew!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
I would say that it is important to make the most of the 4 week internship. It is very important to network well and get to know the wider team, especially if you have an interest in a particular area of sustainability (e.g. Net Zero Transformation). All levels of the team (from associate to Director) were happy to have 30 minute coffee catch-ups to share their expertise!
