Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

Your first-week focused on learning the business of law and this was followed by a two-week internship in the CMS London office.
The 'Business of Law' week was packed with a variety of different activities. The first day involved an introduction to CMS and a discussion on AI. The second day involved a virtual stakeholder simulation that we completed as a group. The third and fourth days involved visits to client developments that we had advised on. The fifth day involved an innovation Den where we presented an idea and people 'invested' in their favorite.
The two-week internship involved sitting in a legal department at the Firm and completing typical trainee solicitor tasks.
Throughout the 3-weeks the Firm also organised fun socials after work.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?

Very inspiring and motivating. The Firm really showed us itself, its expertise, its goals, its culture, and the variety of legal career options available. As such a large firm, there is ample opportunity to explore different practice groups and sector groups that interest you, gain experience in these, and develop and progress in the direction of your choosing.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The Firm's culture is great. People take their work seriously but not themselves. There is a very warm, open, and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel welcome. You are also pushed out of your comfort zone and encouraged and supported in your progression, which makes you feel confident.
