Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Helping with the preparation of reports, in close communication with a senior engineer. This involves running calculations, extracting results, and presenting them in a concise manner.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, several of the calculations and checks I made were crucial to the structural stability of the project. I have felt the importance of my work and the responsibility that came with it.

I have learned several software required for the necessary calculations. I have also gained a better understanding of professional engineering practice, and ways to present myself as well as the work I produce.

I have been given a good level of support, from senior engineers to fellow placement students. There has been a good balance between giving me enough guidance to start a task, and allowing me to figure things out myself to aid in my learning.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture has been warm and welcoming, in my two weeks thus far I have met more people than I can remember, each reaching out and offering their words of support. I was quick to settle in and can foresee myself working in this type of environment in the long term.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

The internship has been enjoyable, I can look back and see the personal growth in terms of technical skills, as well as soft skills related to working in a professional engineering environment. There have been fond memories created through friendships and the various people I have met and spoke to.
