Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role consisted of working to complete the relevant purchasing documents to ensure that the purchasing function was able to operate efficiently, such as raising purchase orders, RFQ's, part set ups etc.
The role also consisted of working on a variety of projects such as negotiating MOQ's with suppliers, finding the reasons behind IPV, supporting the supply continuity section and other projects throughout the year.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Within my placement i was given a great deal of responsibility from the start, however constantly having the support required when necessary to ensure that any doubts were resolved.
I think this really helped develop my skills and personal development by having this greater level of responsibility within such a large organisation.

Within my placement i have learnt and developed a variety of skills. The primary skills I have picked up on within my placement is my understanding of the supply chain function and how it operates from start to finish. I have also improved my organizational and time management skills as these are important aspects of the role.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Within my placement i received a great deal of support and guidance when necessary and reached out for it. A lot of the role consisted of individual problem solving however the training was always adequate and easy to find support when necessary.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
A great company culture and atmosphere where employee's are always looking to support each other were possible and ensure that the work load is evenly distributed when times become overwhelmed.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and the experience and skills i have developed from it. Sadly this took place during the year of COVID and therefore work was full remote, however I still managed to reap the benefits.

What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
Make sure that you focus on your personal skills as well as your educational skills when focusing on applications, as personal skills are considered valuable within the organization and being able to communicate and get on well with a large group of people is a necessity to ensure you are competent in your role.
