Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Supporting the Marketing Controller on their daily activities. Review purchase orders and ensure that there is budget to pay for them and that they have been tracked correctly. I would manage the marketing budget from my brand and ensure that all expenses are tracked on the correct branch of the P&L and well as in the correct month. I also supported the Marketing teams with their financial queries.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was amazed by the amount of responsibility I was given during my internship. I felt that my actions during my internship really impacted the business. Ranging from a approvals to uploading sensible data I was trusted to do so. I also was delegated to run and send out several reports that were business critical.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have vastly developed my excel and technical skills regarding financial analysis. L'Oreal also teaches you how to behave on the work environment and offer various opportunities to improve them. The soft skills that I developed the most would be communication. L'Oreal emphasises the importance the each employee should be treated according to their personality. This will allow you to always communicate efficiently and respectfully.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received plenty support and guidance during my internship. My line manager and finance team was always ready to help me with any query I needed. There were also very patient during the start of my internship. Apart from personal support you have a several course which you can complete on your own time to improve your work skills.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
L'Oreal's culture is incredibly positive and motivating. Constant social events motivate you to keep working hard. Additionally, there is multiple events to congratulate teams that have been working hard. Congratulations from senior employees help maintain the atmosphere positive. Everybody is willing to help you.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement greatly, I was handed a workload that was challenging and I manage to learn many things from it. It was very important for me to learn from this experience and no be given useless activities. I also was exposed to multiple social events that made experience much more gratifying.

For those unsure whether to apply to L'Oreal I would heavily encourage it. As an international student I know that their recruiting process takes into account students from all backgrounds. You will also not regret working for L'Oreal as you will learn everyday and from multiple topics.
