Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Focusing on the transactional media aspect of the E-Commerce team, daily and weekly tasks include data reporting from several dashboards, in order to monitor media performance across the e-retailer customers of the division. This is in addition to media administration tasks and working with the E-Com team and brand teams to build and refine monthly and yearly strategies. I also had the opportunity to support with account managing tasks and landing new opportunities to drive incremental growth for the division.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility this year and was privileged to own different projects across my internship, even taking the lead on some internal and external meetings with media agencies and having direct communication with the different e-retailers I was working closely with. The reporting I was carrying out on a weekly and monthly basis was my responsibility and these figures were regularly monitored and used in presentations to show key stakeholders the performance of transactional media per brand and strategy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The greatest skill I have gained and developed across the internship has been my Excel skills, as using MS Excel was the basis of my role. Next, presentation skills - I had the opportunity on many occasions to present in internal and external formal settings to showcase my work and and upskill the wider team on what my specialties became. Organisational and communication skills were also developed, as I learned how to create meaningful professional relationships with colleagues across the business. Finally, data analysis was another significant part of my role.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received plenty of support and guidance and had regular check ins with my line manager and other colleagues in my team, to monitor my development and ensure I was making the most out of my internship. There were plenty of training opportunities which I used to upskill myself, and I was fortunate to be able to communicate any workload concerns with my line manager who would help me to prioritise my tasks if/when needed.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture and general atmosphere within my team in PPD was great, we had a balanced and positive dynamic and I enjoyed coming into the office to see the team face to face and build more meaningful connections than over MS Teams when working from home. The intern culture was also positive and I have made some good friends over the year from the NextGen community, who often organised socials and networking events for us to attend.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at L'Oreal and have had a well-rounded experience. I believe you get out what you put in and I have gained many connections and learnt so much about the industry, as well as developing a variety of hard and soft skills. Going forwards I can take these with me to wherever my career path leads. L'Oreal has been a super fun business to work for with great socials and launch parties, and definitely felt looked after in terms of wellbeing.
